/ Student Exchange
But honestly, I
But honestly, I is a collaborative online exhibition between students from Edith Cowan University (Perth) and the National Art School (Sydney), developed in response to the Frame of Mind: Mental health and the arts program.
The project centres on the Instagram page @buthonestlyi which features artworks from students at both institutions, as well as written prompts intended to spark new artworks and discussion.
The project seeks to raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by artists, and develop relationships and strengthen connections between artists, particularly across state divides. The collaboration explores the ways artists engage with themes of mental health within their work. It is hoped artists will:
- Comment or message those also involved in the project.
- Make an artwork in response to someone else’s artwork,
- Take the conversation in a completely different direction.
- Send artworks as gifts to ‘the other side’,
- Respond to someone else’s work with a reciprocal artwork.
- Produce other forms of art such as poetry or music in response to works or prompts
Participants are encouraged to collaborate and discuss personal experiences and/or their responses about mental health and art.
